Remote Area Trainees
In order to cater for all trainees, the AFOEM training program has a special Remote Area Trainee arrangement. Commonly known as RATs remote area trainees are those trainees who, because of their isolation of their place of employment, are unable to attend regular face-to-face trainee review meetings. This is organised at application stage or when the trainee's circumstances change. There is a Remote Area Trainee Director of Training, ensuring that the RATs meet the requirements of the training program. Teleconferences or communication by electronic media is managed by the Remote DoT. On the third Thursday of each month, a RATs teleconference is held, where trainees have the opportunity to present to the group. These presentations cover at least one of the nine competencies of the training program. Teleconferences are approximately 1.5hrs in duration and commence at midday (Brisbane local time).
To establish whtehr you can be classified as a RAT, please check with your Regional Director of Training. Trainees must apply and be approved by the Faculty as remote to participate in RATs teleconferences. Remote trainees are required to complete all aspects of the AFOEM training program like other trainees. It is strongly advised that not all of the training program is undertaken as a Remote Trainee.
